Maniac sets girl ablaze for spurning advances

Warangal, Feb 27 (Maxim news):In a bizarre incident in Nayeem Nagar in Hanamkonda this morning, an under-graduate student, in broad daylight waylaid his classmate one Ravali Rao on the road, poured petrol and set her ablaze. The reason for his dare-devil action was she spurned his amorous advances.

The victim T Ravali Rao, a final year student of Vaagdevi Degree & PG College, sustained 90% burns and was battling for her life in the MGM Hospital here. Doctors attending on her said the victim’s condition remained critical. Accused Pendyala Sai Anvesh of Chennaram village of Wardhannapet mandal has been taken into custody.

Eye-witnesses said the mind-numbing incident occurred near the college. They said Anvesh, riding a motorcycle approached Ravali, doused her with petrol and set her on fire, even as the college students and passersby were watching helplessly as the accused threatened them too. The victim girl belongs to Ramachandrapuram village in Sangem mandal. Both the victim and the assailant are final year students of the same college pursuing studies.

Hanamkonda ACP Chandraiah, accompanied by circle inspector Sampath Kumar, rushed to the scene of offence and launched investigation. (Maxim News)
