Hyderabad: A two-day CAS workshop “For Effective Reporting on Child Health” organized by UNICEF in collaboration with the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ), Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) concluded on October 30, 2022 at Dehradun. Twelve (12) students from Department of MCJ represented MANUU in the workshop which was held from October 28 to 30.
Prof. Mohammad Fariyad, Head, Department of MCJ and Prof. Ehtesham Ahmed Khan, Dean, School of Mass Communication and Journalism were facilitated by UNICEF officials for such type of initiatives. On this occasion Prof. Fariyad said that now a days it’s a very important to know about fake news and to check facts before circulating anything among public platforms. Prof. Ehtesham said that such type of workshop help journalism students to understand about media and its functioning. 12 MANUU media students were accompanied by Mr. Mohd. Tahir Quresh, Assistant Professor. A team led by MANUU students Faiza Parwez and Nazli kHAN won the first prize in workshop among 150 students and media persons participated in the workshop. Third prize winner team also led by MANUU students Siddiqua Fatima and Mohammed Faizan .
Zafrin Chowdhury, Chief of Communication, Advocacy and Partnerships, UNICEF India, in her online address throw light on Misinformation which perhaps is the only thing more contagious than the virus. It spreads fast and poses an imminent threat to public health safety.
The workshop brought together practitioners of CAS, journalism students and subject experts including Sanjay Abhigyan, Former Executive Editor, Amar Ujala (Dehradun) and CAS Mentor; Pankaj Pachauri, Media Editor, GO News, and CAS Mentor; Dr N K Arora, Chairman of India’s COVID-19 Working Group of the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation; Prof (Dr.) Rajib Dasgupta, Centre of Social Medicine and Community Health, School of Social Sciences, JNU; Somasekhar Mulugu, Former Associate Editor, The Hindu BusinessLine; Muralikrishnan Chinnadurai, Internews Health Journalism Network; immunization, health and nutrition experts from UNICEF, senior journalists and RJs from prominent newspapers and private FM to discuss in detail about misinformation and disinformation, fact news, the importance of evidence-based journalism in areas that impact children such as Routine Immunization, COVID-19 and Vaccines, Antibiotics, Nutrition and Primary Healthcare.
