Mumbai, May 7 : A massive dust storm swept through parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region on Thursday evening, affecting several residential areas in Kalyan and Mulund.
Videos shared on social media showed thick clouds of dust covering roads, buildings, and neighbourhoods. The storm reduced visibility in many areas and caused concern among residents.
According to local weather updates, the dust storm first formed over the eastern suburbs before moving westward towards Thane and other parts of Mumbai.
Authorities Advise Residents to Stay Indoors
Weather tracking handle Mumbai Rains issued an alert around 4.30 pm. The alert warned that the storm could affect Thane and the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region for the next one to two hours.
Officials and weather observers advised residents to remain indoors as a safety measure. They also asked motorists to drive carefully because strong winds and dust reduced visibility on roads.
Sudden dust storms often occur before thunderstorms during extreme summer weather conditions in Maharashtra. Such weather activity can disrupt traffic movement and affect daily life in urban areas.
No major injuries or damage reports had emerged at the time of reporting. However, authorities continued to monitor weather conditions across the region.
