Medigadda Barrage: Central Team Begins To Examine The Collapsed Bridge
Hyderabad, Oct 24 (Maxim News): The Central Committee is examining the recently collapsed Medigadda (Lakshmi) barrage. A committee of six experts headed by Central Water Commission member led by Anil Jain will check the dam.
Along with the team, the State government Irrigation Engineers and construction company L&T engineers are also present. The Central team will assess the strength of the barrage and the damage caused. It seems that the barrage has sagged by three to four feet.
The pillars of the Medigadda (Lakshmi) barrage, a key part of the Kaleshwaram project, collapsed on Saturday evening. Some of the 15 to 20 pillars in the 6th block seem to have sagged. It seems that the shape of the project bridge has changed. The staff who were doing maintenance work were alerted by the sounds coming from the gates.
Medigadda (Lakshmi) barrage is the most important in the Kaleshwaram project built with Rs. lakh crores. It was built at Jayashankar Bhupallypally in Mahadevapur Mandal of districts. 20 Kilometers below the confluence of Pranahita and Godavari, built with 85 gates, this reservoir has a capacity of 16.17 TMCs. The floodgates of Pranahita have been lifted upstream from this barrage by reverse pumping. (Maxim News)
