Meerpet Murder Case: Ex-Army Man Books Tickets For ‘Sankranthiki Vasthunnam’ After Killing Wife

Hyderabad, 28 January 2025: Shocking details emerged in the Meerpet murder case, where an ex-Army man, Gurumurthy, allegedly killed his wife, Venkata Madhavi, in a horrifyingly brutal manner. The accused is said to have dismembered her body, cooked body parts in a bucket with an electric heater, and powdered her bones to dispose of the remains.

The murder occurred on January 15, on the day of Sankranthi. After committing the crime, Gurumurthy tried to act normal by booking tickets for the movie “Sankranthiki Vasthunnam” and watching it with a friend. The police have since summoned the friend for questioning.

Web Series Becomes Inspiration In Meerpet Murder Case

Investigators found that Gurumurthy made eight phone calls after the murder, including one to his sister, who lives in Badangpet. Further investigation revealed that he took inspiration for the crime from an OTT black-comedy thriller, “Sookshmadarshini“, using ideas from the series to plan and execute the murder.

Police are awaiting DNA and forensic reports to strengthen their case. Items used in the crime, such as the bucket, grinding tools, and other utensils, are considered crucial evidence to present in court.

The gruesome nature of the crime has shocked the local community, leaving many in disbelief over the cold and calculated actions of Gurumurthy.
