Mehdipatnam skywalk likely to be completed by May 2023

Hyderabad, 17 January: Work on the 11 elevator-equipped, 390-meter-long upscale skywalk in Mehdipatnam is moving quickly and gaining shape. The skywalk borders the PV Narasimha Rao Expressway, with commercial structures on one side and Defense land on the other.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is constructing a pedestrian-friendly facility with a budget of Rs 32.97 crore, with a target completion date of May 2023. An HMDA official stated that “work connected to the laying of foundations is in the process towards the Defence complex wall side.”

According to the senior official, all construction connected to the 13 foundations and MS columns at Asif Nagar Road and the 12 foundations and MS columns at Rythu Bazaar Road, as well as the fabrication of decks, has been finished.

After construction is finished, the Mehdipatnam skywalk will improve pedestrian safety at this busy intersection. The length of the pedestrian walkway from the Mehdipatnam Bus Depot to the Defense Boundary is 50 meters, while the distance of the intermediate tunnel walk from Mehdipatnam to Rythu Bazaar and the Asifnagar Police Station is 160 meters, out of the 390 meters long skywalk. The path from Mehdipatnam to Mallepally Road is 180 meters long, too. The clearance height is 6.15 meters, and the pedestrian facility is roughly four to five meters wide.

The skywalk is accessible from five locations, including those adjacent to Rythu Bazar, the Defense Compound Wall, the Bus Bay Area in Mehdipatnam, the Asif Nagar Police Station, and the Raymond Showroom (Gudimalkapur Junction.) The HMDA is building a 21,061.42 sft commercial area above the bus stop, which will include coffee shops, escape spots, lounge foods, etc. on the skywalk. In addition to providing pedestrians with snacks and other goods, the commercial space will bring in money for the department, according to an HMDA representative. The HMDA will add LED strip lights along the arch, cables, and walkway tunnels to further enhance the area’s beauty.
