The latest reshuffle has raised speculation that senior bureaucrats are falling out of favour with top leadership.

Senior IAS officer Ilambarathi, who was serving as Metropolitan Commissioner for the core municipal area, has been transferred within four months of his posting.

Sources suggest that officials in crucial municipal positions are being replaced abruptly, indicating possible dissatisfaction at the top levels.

Frequent Transfers Raise Questions

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who directly oversees the department, is reportedly monitoring its operations closely.

Officials say that certain officers were moved after the Chief Minister received repeated reports about irregularities and administrative overreach. Some allege that a few officials handled additional responsibilities beyond their assigned scope, triggering internal criticism.

Earlier, IAS officer Dana Kishore, who served as Principal Secretary of the department during the initial phase of the Congress government, was also transferred mid-term.

Though he brought experience as former GHMC Commissioner and Water Board MD, sources claim his proactive approach exceeded directives, which reportedly led to his transfer after a year and a half in the post.

Ilambarathi, previously Transport Commissioner, had introduced several governance and financial reforms during his short tenure at GHMC.

Despite positive administrative results, the government reassigned him as Secretary for Metropolitan and Urban Development divisions.

Political observers believe financial and procedural controversies may have influenced the decision.

Officials familiar with the matter say the Chief Minister’s close control over the department leaves limited operational freedom for bureaucrats.

This has created uncertainty among senior officials handling key urban governance portfolios.
