Musi Group Skips Revanth RiverFront Meeting

Hyderabad, Mar 13 (Maxim News) : Musi Jan Andolan has opposed the Musi River Front Development plan. The group spoke during the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy presentation. It said it will not attend the programme. So the group protested.

The group said police detained one of its members. It is called the action against democratic values. The detention came a day after talks with ministers. Therefore, the group questioned the government’s stand.

Musi Jan Andolan said it works for riverbank residents. It asked the state to protect their rights. It also asked the government to avoid forced evictions. Moreover, it warned against harm to the environment. So it demanded a balanced river revival plan.

The group said Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka invited them for talks. Ministers Sridhar Babu, Vakiti Srihari, and Adluri Laxman also joined. A 12 member team attended the meeting. During the talks, the group shared its demands.

They said river revival must follow due process. They also opposed plans without full public debate. In addition, they cited a letter by social activist Medha Patkar. The letter went to the Chief Minister on March 10. Therefore, the issue gained attention.

The group said the March 13 event at Taj Krishna is only a presentation. It said the event is not the final project report. Ministers also said the same in the meeting. They said the plan will go on the website. So the public can give feedback.

Musi Jan Andolan said talks do not mean support. It said it joined the meeting only to know the plan. Therefore, it asked the government not to claim its backing.

The group also raised another issue. It spoke about reports on a Gandhi Sarovar event. It said the matter needs clarity. Meanwhile, it asked the state to hold open talks with groups.

The group also condemned the house arrest of member Syed Bilal. It called the action unfair. So it asked the government to respect protests.

The Musi project remains under debate. The government says it aims to revive the river. Meanwhile, civic groups seek safeguards. So the discussion may continue. (Maxim News)
