Muslim Cleric Booked For Inflammatory Remarks Against SP MP Dimple Yadav During TV Debate
Lucknow/Hyderabad, July 28, 2025 (Maxim News) — A Muslim cleric, Maulana Sajid Rashidi, has been booked by Uttar Pradesh Police for allegedly making objectionable and inflammatory remarks against Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav during a televised debate, triggering strong condemnation for his derogatory comments aimed at a woman parliamentarian.
The FIR was lodged at the Vibhuti Khand police station on Sunday evening following a complaint by local resident Pravesh Yadav, who alleged that Rashidi’s statements were not only deeply misogynistic but also designed to provoke communal tension and insult the dignity of women.
Remarks Followed Dimple Yadav’s Visit to Mosque
The controversy erupted after Dimple Yadav, wife of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, recently visited a mosque. During a debate on national television, Maulana Rashidi reportedly made offensive remarks about her attire and presence at the religious place.
“He made extremely offensive, inflammatory, and anti-women remarks against MP Dimple Yadav after her visit to the mosque on July 26,” the complainant said in his written statement.
The comments were shared widely on social media and news channels, further amplifying public outrage.
Charges Filed Under BNS and IT Act
Police have registered the FIR under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including:
- Section 79: Word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman
- Section 196: Promoting enmity between groups based on religion, race, etc.
- Section 197: Statements prejudicial to national integration
Additionally, provisions of the Information Technology Act have been invoked for the digital circulation of the remarks, a senior police official confirmed.
Complaint Calls Remarks ‘Anti-National’ and Divisive
In his complaint, Pravesh Yadav accused the cleric of possessing an “anti-national mindset” and alleged that his remarks were a deliberate attempt to disrupt the country’s secular and inclusive social fabric.
“Such elements are a direct threat to the unity, integrity, and peace of India. Rashidi’s comments insult not only a woman’s personal dignity but also risk igniting communal disharmony,” the complaint stated.
Police Investigation Underway
Authorities have confirmed that the matter is currently under active investigation, and appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings.
“We are examining all video footage and digital evidence. No one will be spared if found guilty of spreading hate or undermining public peace,” said a senior police officer.
