N. Ramachandra Rao Likely to Be Named New Telangana BJP President
Hyderabad, June 30, 2025 (Maxim News): Senior BJP leader and former MLC N. Ramachandra Rao is poised to take over as the next Telangana BJP State President, with party sources indicating that his appointment is nearly finalized. The official announcement is expected on Tuesday, marking a significant shift in the party’s state leadership.
According to senior party leaders, Ramachandra Rao’s loyalty, ideological alignment with the party’s core values, and experience have earned him wide support, including from influential RSS-affiliated circles. Many believe that his deep understanding of the BJP’s ideological framework makes him the ideal choice to lead the party in Telangana.
Etala Rajender Still in Race; Final Decision on Tuesday
While Malkajgiri MP Etala Rajender’s name is also in the reckoning, sources confirm that Ramachandra Rao and Etala are the only two serious contenders remaining on the final shortlist. Barring any last-minute surprises, the party high command is expected to greenlight Ramachandra Rao’s appointment.
There has also been speculation about balancing caste and regional equations, especially after the BJP leadership previously promised that a BC leader would be considered for Chief Minister if the party came to power. With that in mind, party insiders suggest the president post might be given to a non-BC leader to ensure social diversity in leadership roles.
Bandi Sanjay, Arvind Not in Final List
Names like Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar and Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind, though earlier speculated to be in the race, have reportedly not made it to the final shortlist, sources close to the leadership confirmed.
Party Leadership Calls for Consensus
Union Minister and outgoing BJP State President G. Kishan Reddy expressed hope that the election would be unanimous. Speaking to the media on Sunday, he stated,
“Nominations will be accepted on Monday, and the new president will be announced on Tuesday. Whether there will be only one nomination — let’s see what happens.”
Official Election Schedule and Preparations
As part of the BJP’s national organizational restructuring, a notification was issued on Sunday for the elections of the Telangana state president and national council members. Yendala Lakshminarayana, State Election Officer, announced that nominations will be accepted from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Monday, with withdrawals allowed until 5:00 PM the same day.
Meanwhile, a preparatory meeting was held by Organizational State General Secretary Chandrashekhar Tiwari and State In-charge Abhay Patil with key party leaders to ensure smooth proceedings.
Raja Singh Criticizes ‘VIP Politics’
Firebrand MLA Raja Singh voiced strong opinions on the matter, asserting that the BJP needs a grassroots leader rather than a “VIP President”.
“I want a president whom karyakartas call Anna. I might even file a nomination under activists’ pressure,” he said, further stating that if elected, he would initiate a cow protection unit and bring in Yogi-style governance in Telangana.
With the final verdict just hours away, the Telangana BJP seems ready to usher in a new era of leadership, aiming to consolidate its position ahead of the upcoming GHMC and Lok Sabha elections.
