Hyderabad: The inaugural session of the two day National Workshop on Law and Forensic Science was successfully held on February 7 at Osmania University in Hyderabad. The programme took place from 10 am to 11.15 am at the Prof G Ram Reddy Centre for Distance Education on the university campus. The event marked the formal opening of a national level academic platform focusing on the link between law and forensic science.

The National Workshop on Law and Forensic Science is being jointly organised by the PG College of Law, Osmania University, and R B V R R Women’s College, Narayanaguda. The workshop has brought together legal scholars, faculty members, and academic administrators. The discussions aim to examine the growing interface between legal studies and forensic science in academic and judicial contexts.

Meanwhile, Prof V Balakista Reddy, Chairman of the Telangana Council of Higher Education, attended the programme as the chief guest. He highlighted the importance of forensic science in strengthening the criminal justice delivery system. The session was presided over by Prof Kumar Molugaram, Vice Chancellor of Osmania University. He emphasised the need for interdisciplinary research and stronger academic collaboration between law and science based disciplines.

Also present were Prof N Venkateshwarlu, Head and Dean of the Faculty of Law at Osmania University, and Prof G Sudarshan Reddy, Secretary and Correspondent of R B V R R Women’s College. They participated as guests of honour. Prof B Vijaya Laxmi, Convener of PG LAWCET and TGPGLCET, attended the programme as the special guest. Their presence added academic depth to the National Workshop on Law and Forensic Science.

The workshop is funded by the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyaan under its academic support initiatives. The organising committee includes Prof J Achyutha Devi, Co Convenor and Principal of R B V R R Women’s College, and Dr T Aparna, Convenor and Principal of the PG College of Law, Osmania University. They coordinated the inaugural session and overall planning of the event.

During the session, speakers focused on the role of forensic science in legal education and judicial processes. They underlined the need for structured academic engagement between law and scientific disciplines. Later, the organisers stated that the inaugural session laid the foundation for detailed discussions planned during the remaining sessions of the workshop.

The organisers also expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, faculty members, and participants for their cooperation. They stated that the National Workshop on Law and Forensic Science aims to promote research oriented dialogue and improve understanding of forensic applications in legal practice.
