NCERT Apology Over Judiciary Chapter In Class 8 Book

Hyderabad: NCERT Apology has come after a controversy over a chapter on the judiciary in a Class 8 textbook. The National Council of Educational Research and Training issued a public apology on Monday. It also announced that the entire book has been withdrawn.

The issue began after the inclusion of “Corruption in the Judiciary” as a subject in the Class 8 Social Science textbook. The book was published by the National Council of Educational Research and Training. Soon after, the content triggered a heated debate across the country.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court imposed a blanket ban on the book two weeks before the apology. Following this development, the NCERT responded to the controversy. It then issued a public apology and confirmed the withdrawal of the textbook.

NCERT statement explains apology and withdrawal

NCERT issued an official statement explaining its decision. The statement clarified details about the book and the controversial chapter. It also confirmed that the textbook would no longer remain available.

“The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) recently published a sociology textbook for class VIII (Part-II) titled ‘Exploring Society: India and Beyond’. The fourth chapter of the textbook is on the topic ‘Role of Judiciary in our Society’. The Director and members of NCERT unconditionally apologize for that chapter. The book has now been completely withdrawn. It is no longer available,” it said.

The statement clearly acknowledged the concerns raised about the chapter. Therefore, NCERT decided to withdraw the book completely. Officials also confirmed that the publication is no longer available.

Judiciary chapter triggered nationwide discussion

The controversy mainly centered on the chapter discussing the role of the judiciary. The topic included references to “Corruption in the Judiciary.” As a result, the chapter became the focus of national debate.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court took action by imposing a blanket ban on the book. This decision came about two weeks before NCERT issued its apology. Later, the council formally responded to the situation.

The apology and withdrawal mark the official response of NCERT to the issue. The council also confirmed that the book titled “Exploring Society: India and Beyond” has been fully withdrawn.

The development has drawn attention to the content of school textbooks and the process of reviewing academic material. However, the official statement only confirmed the apology and the withdrawal of the book.
