Hyderabad, Aug.22 (Maxim News): Minister for Environment, Forests, Science & Technology, Endowments and Law, Allola Indrakaran Reddy participated as the Chief Guest and Inaugurated the National Meet of State Science & Technology (S&T) Councils here today. He stressed on the need for increased Scientific Literacy among the public for development of Scientific Attitude in accordance with the stipulation of Constitution of India vide Article 51(A).
He also desired that the Science & Technology interventions should increase in all sectors of society and should be implemented for solving location specific problems. He requested the Government of India for greater cooperation on Science & Technology matters.
Dr. Debapriya Dutta, Advisor and Head, State Science & Technology Program, Department of Science & Technology, GoI, participating as the Guest of Honour.
He said that the role of State Science & Technology Councils has to be redefined according to the changing times. The State Science Technology Councils should take the lead role in facilitation of S&T interventions for the state-specific problems and should be oriented towards S&T Governance.
Prof.Satish B. Agnihotri, Professor, Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai and the Chairman, Expert Group on State Science & Technology Councils constituted by the DST, Govt. of India, informed that the Telangana State showed good potential in the development and application of Science & Technology in various fields. He further stressed that Science & Technology Councils should be strengthened in order to develop an S&T driven knowledge society.
Er. Ravinder Gaur, Member Secretary, State Science & Technology Programme, DST, Govt. of India, explained about the salient features of State S&T Councils.
Prof. Ravi Kumar Puli, Member Secretary, TSCOST explained about the programs and activities of TSCOST in Telangana State.
Member Secretaries, Director Generals, Directors of State S&;T Councils / Departments from all over the country have participated in the Meet.
After the Inaugural Function, Presentations on State-wise S&T Programs commenced. The three-day meet will conclude on August 24.(Maxim News)
