It seems that the Ministry of Civil Aviation has already conducted surveys on this.  It is reported that an announcement is likely to be released soon.

Before the separation of the two Telugu states, when it was a united Andhra Pradesh, the then government built an international airport in Shamshabad. GMR was awarded the construction contract.  However, the government has made this construction agreement with certain conditions.  However, according to the rules, the GMR company has agreed with the government not to establish commercial airports within 150 km of Shamshabad airport for 30 years (till 2038).  Recently, it is reported that those agreements have been set aside and the construction of an airport in Mamunur has been agreed upon.  Officials estimate that a total of 950 acres of land is required for this construction.  At present, 696 acres of land are available under AAI, while the government is working to acquire another 253 acres of land.

Many people have forgotten that there is another airport in Telangana apart from Shamshabad Airport.  But it is not newly built now.  It was built in 1930 in Mamunur in Warangal district during the true period.  Air services operated there for a few years.  But due to some reasons it was closed.  From then till now it has remained as a place for rearing cattle.

Under the “Udo Deska Aam nagarik ‘ (UDAN)  scheme brought by the Center in 2017, the government has decided to develop Mamunur Airport.  Meanwhile, the then government decided to develop the Mamunur Airport along with the establishment of six new airports in Telangana.  But this did not go ahead.  The Congress government that came to power recently made efforts to establish airports.  After several negotiations with the GMR company, it finally agreed to construct an airport at Mamunur, setting aside the 150 km rule.  It is noteworthy that Manunur is less than 146-148 km from Shamshabad Airport.  (Maxim News)
