New Virus (GBS) Spreading In Guntur, AP

Guntur/Hyderabad, Feb 14 (Maxim News): A rare neurological disorder, Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), is spreading in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. The number of cases at Guntur Government Hospital (GGH) is rising, with seven patients diagnosed so far.

Doctors confirmed that one case was reported in the morning, and by the afternoon, six more cases had emerged.

Patients in Critical Condition

  • Two patients are in serious condition – one is on a ventilator, and the other is in the ICU.
  • Five others are in the general ward, and two have already been discharged after treatment.

Government Steps In

Concerned by the increasing cases, Krishna Babu, Principal Secretary of the Medical and Health Department, visited GGH and instructed officials to stay alert and ensure proper medical care.

After inspecting the neurology ward, he assured the public that:

  • GBS is not a new disease—it normally affects one or two people per lakh.
  • Most cases in India have been reported in Pune.
  • Authorities are investigating whether there are any unusual causes for the sudden rise in cases.
  • 10-11 cases per month is normal, so there is no need to panic.

Public Advisory

  • Keep your surroundings clean to prevent infections.
  • Don’t believe or spread false rumors.
  • Immunoglobulin treatment is being made available at key hospitals.
  • The government is closely monitoring both public and private hospitals.

Health officials have assured that the situation is under control, and there is no reason to panic. (Maxim News)
