Hyderabad, March 3 (Maxim News) : NHRC registers case on Musi Riverfront Project following a complaint alleging environmental damage along the Musi riverbanks. Senior human rights lawyer Ramarao Immaneni approached the National Human Rights Commission seeking intervention.
He alleged that authorities are cutting thousands of century old trees in Langar Houz, Narsingi and Ramdevguda without comprehensive studies. He claimed that officials began work without conducting environmental and social impact assessments.
According to the complaint, the project is affecting livelihoods and damaging riverbank ecosystems. Therefore, he urged the commission to halt ongoing activities immediately.

Ramarao Immaneni requested the commission to direct Musi River Development Corporation Limited to stop tree felling. He specifically asked Managing Director E V Narasimha Reddy to suspend works that may harm the environment.
He also sought adequate compensation for families affected by the project. Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission took cognisance of the complaint and initiated an inquiry.
The petitioner stated that he would continue legal efforts to protect the Musi riverbanks. However, officials have not yet issued a detailed public response on the allegations. (Maxim News)
