Nikhat Zareen, the reigning national boxing champion, met Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Advisor to the Telangana Government, at his residence after winning gold at the 2026 National Boxing Championships. The meeting took place days after her latest success and highlighted continued state support for elite athletes.
Nikhat Zareen secured a dominant 5 0 victory in the finals of the national tournament. The result reaffirmed her position as one of India’s leading female boxers. During the meeting, Shabbir Ali praised her performance and described it as a strong start to the year. “Nikhat Zareen has once again made Telangana and the entire country proud. Her commitment and discipline are inspiring for the younger generation,” he said.
He also extended his best wishes for her future tournaments. These included the upcoming Asian Games, the World Championships, and her journey towards an Olympic medal. He expressed confidence that she would continue to shine on the global stage. He added that her achievements bring recognition to Indian boxing and to Telangana.
As a token of appreciation, Nikhat Zareen presented Shabbir Ali with a jacket from the World Boxing Championship held in Liverpool in 2025. She thanked him for his continued support and encouragement throughout her career. During the interaction, she also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Shabbir Ali for facilitating her appointment as a Deputy Superintendent of Police in the Telangana Police. She described it as a proud moment for her and her family.

“I am grateful to the Telangana Government for recognising my efforts and providing me with the opportunity to serve the State as a DSP. This support motivates me to work even harder for my country in the ring,” said Zareen.
Shabbir Ali later spoke about the Telangana Government’s focus on sports. He said the State continues to honour athletes who bring national and international recognition. “As part of this initiative, we nominated Nikhat Zareen and Indian cricketer Mohammed Siraj for DSP posts. Their success stories are examples of what talent can achieve when supported by the government,” he said. He also noted ongoing investment in sports infrastructure, training facilities, and welfare schemes.
