Interpol officials on Monday detained Arjun Sharma, the former boyfriend of Hyderabad woman Godishala Nikitha, in connection with the case. Nikitha, aged 27, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in the US state of Maryland.

According to available details, she had gone missing from December 31. Later, on January 3, her body was discovered inside Arjun Sharma’s apartment. US police said Nikitha had multiple stab injuries on her body. Based on initial findings, investigators suspected that Arjun Sharma was involved in the murder.

Significantly, Arjun Sharma himself had approached the police on January 2 to file a complaint about Nikitha’s disappearance. However, on the same day, he reportedly returned to India. Following this, American police issued an arrest warrant against him. US federal agencies then began coordinated efforts with Indian authorities to trace his whereabouts.

Based on precise intelligence inputs received from surveillance agencies, Interpol police tracked the suspect to Tamil Nadu. He was taken into custody on Monday.

Officials confirmed that the arrest was made following close coordination between US authorities and Indian law enforcement agencies.

Meanwhile, US police have maintained that Nikitha’s death was suspicious and that evidence pointed towards homicide.

They believe Arjun Sharma may have murdered her before fleeing the country.

The issuance of an arrest warrant earlier strengthened the case against him and prompted international cooperation.
