NITI Aayog is Misleading People on Allocation of Funds to States: Harish Rao
Hyderabad, Aug.7 (Maxim News): Minister for Finance T Harish Rao lashed out at the NITI Aayog for misleading the people on the allocation of funds to the States.
Speaking to the media here on Sunday, Minister Harish Rao said that the note issued by NITI Aayog after the announcement of boycotting its meeting by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday was full of lies and was completely misleading the people.
He alleged that the NITI had taken political colors and was singing the chorus of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government at the Centre.
On one hand, the Union government has increased taxes in the name of Cess from 10 to 20 percent. On the other hand, it has reduced funds allocation to the States. The Centre had collected over Rs.15.47 lakh crores in the name of Cess since the year 2014 in which States revenue was Rs. 8.67 lakh crores. But the Centre has been denying the share of revenue to States and is deliberately obstructing the rights of States, Harish Rao pointed out.
In fact, the share of States revenue collected by the Centre is 42 percent but the Centre is giving only 29.6 percent, he said.
Responding to the remarks made by the NITI Aayog that the Telangana government could not utilize Rs.3982 crores granted under the Jala Jeevan Mission by the Centre, the Minister said the Centre didn’t release any funds under the scheme and it was completely misleading the people.
The NITI Aayog stated that allocation of funds to States had increased from 32 percent to 42 percent. However, the 15th Finance Commission and Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) found fault with its statement and announced that the States were not getting their due share in the allocation, Harish Rao reminded.
