Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Monday said there should be no animosity between the two Telugu states and stressed the need for unity among Telugu people. Addressing the Telugu Mahasabha held in Guntur district, he said Telugu should become number one in the world and added that unity was essential to achieve this goal.

Chandrababu Naidu said that even though the Telugu people live in two states, Telugu remains their mother tongue. Therefore, he said many issues could be resolved if both states stood united. “If Telugu is to be number one… we should be united,” he said. He also clarified that since the platform was not political, he was focusing only on unity and cooperation among Telugus.

Speaking about irrigation and water management, the Chief Minister recalled that when NTR became Chief Minister, projects like SLBC and SRBC were brought to utilise Sagar waters. He said he completed projects such as Kalvakurthi Lift, AMR Lift Irrigation, and Nettempadu. He explained that water was saved through Krishna Delta Modernization and allocated to Telangana, while the Bima Lift Irrigation project was completed. He also said projects like Guthpa, Alisagar, and Devadula Lift Irrigation were taken up on the Godavari River.

Meanwhile, Chandrababu Naidu said lift irrigation projects such as Chagalnadu, Pushkara, and Tatipudi were developed in the Andhra region. He added that the Pattiseema Project ensured water supply to the Krishna Delta. He also stated that after bifurcation, the central government provided special funds to Polavaram and framed a special law for it.

The Chief Minister expressed concern that about 6,282 TMC of water from the Krishna and Godavari rivers flowed into the sea last year. He said Godavari water was abundant and clarified that he never objected to Telangana using Godavari water. He also said he did not oppose the Kaleshwaram project after bifurcation. He noted that nearly three thousand TMC of Godavari water goes waste into the sea every year.

Later, he revealed plans to link the Krishna and Godavari rivers and suggested that all rivers in Andhra Pradesh should be linked. He also said his wish was to link Ganga and Cauvery to solve the country’s water problem. Reiterating his stand, Chandrababu Naidu said there was no animosity between the Telugu states and stressed that unity was needed, especially on water and cooperation issues.
