No curbs as third wave ended, be cautious: HD

Hyderabad, Feb.8 (Maxim News): Health Director Dr M Srinivas Rao today said as Corona third wave was over in the State, there are no more curbs.

Speaking to media persons here today, Dr Srinivas said the State registered less number of corona cases due to all measures taken to contain the virus spread. He said the third saw its peak by January 23 and the positive rate reached 5 percent. Now the cases and fatalities are coming down drastically and positive rate is below 2 percent, he said, adding that the people vaccinated faced less problems of the virus. Recently a fever survey was conducted followed by distribution of medical kits which helped a lot, he said.

Stating there was no third wave of Corona or its variants in the State, he appealed to the people to remain cautious and maintain protocols. The people have to follow protocols to avoid further infections. There is a need for people to wear masks, sanitise hands and maintain social distance, he said, adding that the State government took all measures to contain the spread of the virus and its new variants across the State.

The recently conducted door-to-door “fever survey” in the districts proved a success, he said. The health staff distributed adequate health kits among the people with mild symptoms in the districts and villages. Though there are corona restrictions in the State, the people should remain cautious, Dr Srinivas Rao said. Reminding that the people had suffered for ten months due to the dreaded virus, he said the second phase of the virus lasted for six months and registered a record number of cases during the 28 days of the second phase of the virus.

Talking about the third phase of the virus, Dr Srinivas said 2.8 percent of the people, who did not take the vaccines were hospitalised after becoming the victims. He said they had conducted the Covid screening tests on 31 lakh people and only 3,000 people were hospitalised in the third phase. He said employers of the various organisations could allow their employees to work with 100 percent strength. He said the IT companies could withdraw their “work from home concept” now.

About the upcoming Medaram jatara, the Health Director said they have made all arrangements for the jatara and set up special vaccination centres to administer vaccines on the devotees besides setting up a 150 bed capacity hospital. On the administration of the Covid vaccines, he said they have administered Covid vaccine on five crore people and in second phase 82 percent of the population was covered. On the vaccination drive for the teenagers, he said they have administered the vaccine on the 73 percent of the teenagers and the second dose on the 13 percent of the teenagers. (Maxim News)
