The Discoms have reportedly decided to provide meters to notarised properties on a special fee structure. Notarised property transactions are done on stamp paper attested by a notary advocate instead of registering it.

This is legally not valid and cannot be transferred to others and even Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had stopped assessing property tax on such properties a few years ago as people were registering them using property tax receipts.

Currently, the Discom authorities are issuing new connections only to registered structures and notarised properties were not entertained.

However, the field staff of the Discoms and brokers used to collect huge sums from people and get them meters by submitting false documents. Consumers having notarised properties in Hyderabad city and other areas had to depend on those brokers in unavoidable situations for getting new connections.

Hence, the Discom management has reportedly decided to allot new meters to notarised properties, to check illegal allotment of connections.

New electricity connections were already being issued to notarised residential properties under the jurisdiction of Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited  (TGSPDCL), the officials said, adding that the people having notarised properties can now get new connections from TGSPDCL official’s website by following easy instructions at a security deposit of Rs. 600.

The notarised documents issue has been there since the 1970s and people have been asking the government to resolve it.  Officials said people opted for notarized documents instead of registration to avoid hefty stamp duty for small properties.  This issue was more in the Old City, officials said.  (Maxim News)
