Odisha Signs MoU To Enhance Museum Tourism And Attract Investment

The Odisha government has taken a significant step towards promoting tourism in the state by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM).

The agreement, aimed at boosting museum tourism, was signed on Wednesday during the Utkarsh Odisha-Make in Odisha Conclave. Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, who is also in charge of the Tourism Department, was present at the event and announced the details of the agreement.

Promoting Museum Tourism

Speaking after the signing of the MoU, Deputy Chief Minister Parida explained that the primary goal of the collaboration with NCSM is to enhance Odisha’s tourism offerings by showcasing various types of museums. These include bird museums, tribal museums, and traditional museums.

The partnership is designed to attract a diverse range of tourists interested in exploring the state’s rich cultural and natural heritage. Additionally, Parida pointed out that Bhubaneswar, with its many ancient temples, holds great potential to become a sought-after destination for temple weddings.

Investment Opportunities in the Tourism Sector

The event also highlighted the state’s growing potential in the tourism industry. Parida revealed that during the summit, Odisha had received 121 investment intents amounting to ₹8,153 crore in the tourism sector.

These investments cover a broad spectrum of tourism-related projects, such as resorts, hotels, water sports facilities, amusement parks, camping sites, and cruise services. The wide variety of proposals reflects the growing interest in developing Odisha as a key tourist destination.

Revisions to Tourism Policies

While optimistic about the influx of investments, Parida acknowledged the need for policy updates to better support tourism growth. She emphasized that certain policies are already designed to be private investment-friendly, but some would require revisions to meet the evolving needs of investors.

“We will revise some policies considering the needs of investors,” she noted, highlighting the government’s commitment to making Odisha more attractive for both domestic and international investments.
