One Crore plantation likely to be taken up in Harithaharam programme
Hyderabad, May 16 (Maxim News): Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy, Commissioner, GHMC directed the Zonal Commissioners / Deputy Commissioners in coordination with Urban Forestry and Horticulture officials to identify the open places / locations / new spots etc., for the development of parks in the twin cities.
In this connection the Commissioner held a review meeting with the Additional Commissioner (UB), ZCs / DCs and senior officials of Biodiversity, Engineering wings for the overall development of the parks in the GHMC limits.
The Commissioner said that the action plan for Telangana Harithaharam programme for 2017 the Government has fixed the planting target of 100 lakhs in GHMC jurisdiction such as open space plantation, avenue plantation, green curtain, green ways, institutional plantation, distribution of Home Stead Plants all together one crore plantation likely to be taken up in Harithaharam programme in this year.
The Commissioner said that the GHMC is planning to develop and maintain major parks, city level parks, theme parks, colony parks to the citizens by providing path ways, play equipment for children of all age groups, also to maintain ecological balance and to reduce pollution levels. These developed parks will be handed over to the respective RWAs / CWAs for further maintenance. The GHMC shall pay 75% of maintenance cost and the balance 25% shall be borne by the RWAs / CWAs.
So far 769 parks are developed including 73 colony parks during the year 2016-17 of which 602 colony parks are handed over to CWAs / RWAs for maintenance. As per the direction of Hon’ble Minister for MA&UD the idea of adoption of a park each by a Senior functionaries of the Department as per the instruction 80 importance parks are adopted by the senior officers.
C. N. Raghu Prasad, Additional Commissioner (UB) explained about the Harithaharam project through Power Point Presentation last year achievements and this year action plan for the year 2017-18 under various categories of plantation such as open spaces, green ways, river side plantation, avenue plantations, home stead plantation and also explained Smruti Vanam, tradition of planting a sapling in memory of someone a brain chile of Hon’ble Chief Minister.
AC (UB) said that as a part of (CSR) Andhra Bank has provided 3390 No. of Tree Guards of worth 25 lakhs under CSR and the same are being distributed and or being utilized field. The Lions Club of India has also come forward to develop and maintain 25 Nos of parks in GHMC open spaces wherever feasible. The list of open spaces is handed over to the Lions Club Authority, Process of identification of open spaces by Lions club of India is in progress.
The Pragathi Resorts has come forward to develop biodiversity parks in open spaces such as Rock Garden in Central Zone, Open spaces in Mayuri Nagar and Open Spaces near Loha apartments. It has also been proposed to develop model vertical gardens in offices of DC/ZC/Sports Complexes of GHMC etc., so as to create awareness among the people for development of Aesthetic Greenery in open spaces of the individual flats, Corporate offices, Sports Complex and office buildings.
