One-day Auto Bandh on Aug. 7 against proposed Road Safety Bill
Hyderabad, Aug.4 (Maxim News): Telangana Auto Driver Unions JAC protest meeting held today at Sundaraiah Vignana Kendram Mini Hall unanimously decided to organize one-day Auto Bandh on August 7 in response to the All India Transport Bandh call opposing the proposed Road Safety Bill by the Centre. It was decided to take out a rally against the Road Safety Bill on August 7 from the AITUC office at 11 am to Raj Bhavan and submit a memorandum to Governor ESL Narashiman.
Representatives of Taxi Cab, School and Bus Vans also attended the meeting and decided to participate in the Transprot Bandh. The meeting was presided over by Eshwaraiah, CITU leader. Earlier, Mohd. Amalluah Khan, Convenor, Telangana Auto Drivers Joint Action Committee, while addressing the auto drivers said if the proposed Road Safety Bill was implemented, the very existence of the transport drivers by profession will be endangered. He said if the Centre was serious about reducing the increasing number of road accidents, it should at once enforce total prohibition in the country.
B. Venkatesham, AITUC leader, said if the Road Safety Bill was implemented no parking challan should be increased from Rs 100 to Rs 1,000 and insurance challan will go up to Rs 5,000 from Rs 250. If one was killed in a road accident, seven years imprisonment and Rs 4 lakh penalty will be levied on the driver without DL challan will go upto Rs. 5000 from Rs. 500 etc.
