According to the police, the killing of Osman bin Hadi had shaken Bangladesh and drawn wide attention because of his role in the student movement. The authorities said they are now coordinating with Indian agencies to bring the accused to justice. The police described the case as a priority and said the investigation is moving forward.

Speaking at the media conference, Additional Commissioner of Police Nazrul Islam said the main accused, Faisal Karim Masood and Alamgir Sheikh, were traced to Tura city in Meghalaya. He said the two entered Meghalaya through the Haluaghat border with the help of their associates. He also said they were sheltered by two persons named “Purthi” and “Sami” after crossing into India. Later, Indian security forces took them into custody.

Nazrul Islam said the Bangladesh police are in contact with Indian authorities through official and unofficial channels. He said these efforts aim to arrest the accused and hand them over to Bangladesh. He added that coordination between agencies is continuing to ensure legal procedures are followed.

Osman bin Hadi played a key role in the student movement that took place in July and August last year. The movement, according to the police statement, was responsible for the fall of the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina. Hadi died on December 18 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Singapore. The police said they have arrested 11 people so far in connection with the murder. Of them, six have confessed to the crime. The authorities also said they plan to file a chargesheet in the case within a week or ten days.
