OU Extends Deep Condolences Following Tragic Demise of Engineering Student

Hyderabad, Dec 2 (Maxim News): Osmania University (OU) today expressed profound sorrow following the tragic death by suicide of Mr. Reddy Vignan Tej, S/o. Reddy Komuraiah, a second-year Mining Engineering student at the University College of Engineering (UCE), OU. The student, who hailed from Huzurabad and resided in the OU Hostel, was discovered deceased in the OU Oxygen Park.

Immediately upon confirmation of the devastating news, a group of senior university officials, including Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kumar Molugaram, Registrar Prof. G. Naresh Reddy, OSD to the VC Prof. S. Jithendra Kumar Naik, Principal, UCE, Prof. P. Chandrashekar, Vice-Principal, UCE, Prof. Mangu, along with the Addl. Warden and Faculty members from the Mining Department, visited Gandhi Hospital to pay their deepest respects and offer condolences to the student’s family.

Registrar Prof. G. Naresh Reddy confirmed that Mr. Vignan Tej was a diligent student who secured his seat through lateral entry from a Polytechnic background. Furthermore, the Registrar affirmed there were no pending issues concerning his academic performance or attendance.

While the university is fully cooperating with the ongoing OU Police investigation, the preliminary assessment suggests the incident may have been prompted by personal, non-academic issues. The university awaits the final report of the police inquiry.

In response to the tragedy, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kumar Molugaram issued a heartfelt statement to the entire student community, stressing the sanctity of life and the importance of seeking help.

“Life is incredibly precious, and no problem is insurmountable,” stated Prof. Molugaram. “We urge our students to prioritize developing their adversity quotient—the inner strength to face and overcome challenges. Death is emphatically not a solution to problems in life. We implore students to seek help and learn constructive ways to address difficulties.” And conveyed that Osmania University reaffirms its unwavering commitment to student well-being and strongly encourages any student experiencing emotional distress to utilize the confidential services provided by “Sahayam,” the University’s Psychological Counselling Centre.
