- Osmania University cancels Law Honours exam
- VC Kumar Molugaram orders re exam for 350 students
Hyderabad: Osmania University Vice Chancellor Professor Kumar Molugaram has cancelled the Law Honours examination held on 27th of last month. He ordered the OU Controller of Examinations to conduct the exam again for 350 students who had written it.
The decision came after authorities found that the same question paper was given for different subjects in the law course exams. Therefore, the university treated the issue seriously and acted against those responsible.
Law Honours Re Exam After Question Paper Mix Up
On 25th of last month, the ‘History of Courts, Legislatures and Legal profession in India’ exam was conducted for first semester students of five year BA LLB, BBA LLB and three year BCom LLB. However, two days later, on February 27, the same question paper was given for the ‘Legal and Constitutional History of India’ exam conducted for first semester students of three year LLB Honours.
Students came to know about the error only after writing the exam. They were shocked when they realised that the same question paper had been used. Meanwhile, some lecturers reportedly tried to describe it as a ‘technical issue’.
However, VC Professor Kumar considered it gross negligence. As a result, he debarred the lecturer responsible from conducting OU examinations and from setting question papers for five years. In addition, the university decided to impose a heavy fine on the lecturer.
Action Taken by Osmania University Authorities
The Vice Chancellor directed the authorities to conduct the Law Honours re exam without delay. He also instructed the Controller of Examinations to ensure that such lapses do not occur again. Therefore, the university has initiated corrective steps to maintain examination standards.
The incident has raised concerns among students about examination management. However, the administration has now clarified its stand and ordered immediate corrective action. With the cancellation of the February 27 paper, the affected 350 students will appear again for the Law Honours examination as per the fresh schedule to be announced by the university.
