Hyderabad, Sept.4 (Maxim News): The State government has selected teachers of the Osmania University as Best Teachers for the year 2018 taking their contribution to Academics, Research and Administration.
Prof. K. Stevenson, Head, Department of Journalism & Mass Communication and Media Advisor, Osmania University, is one among them. He is also Deputy Coordinator, Centre for Advanced Study in Communication & Journalism, Phase-II. Prof. Stevenson has over two decades of experience in teaching Journalism and Communication at the Department at Osmania University. He was Director, Educational Multi Media Research Centre and was the Principal Investigator for three major media research projects of the Government of Andhra Pradesh. He started his career as a journalist for Deccan Chronicle and then joined the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (now EFLU) as a Research Associate. Earlier, he received the National Integration Award and the Best Teacher Award in Public Relations.
The second awardee is Prof. Kumar Molugaram, who obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Osmania University, Hyderabad, Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from J.N.T. University, Hyderabad and Doctorate degree from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. He published over 100 research papers in various International & National journals and conferences.
He delivered more than 300 expert lectures in the area of Transportation Engineering, optimization Techniques and Engineering Research Methodology on various National/state level platforms in India. He is author of three conference proceedings and two books (one in Elsevier publications international). Prof. Kumar has over 23 years of Teaching, Research, and Consultancy and industry experience. Presently, he is Controller of Examinations (centenary year of OU), Osmania University. He initiated many technological based reforms in the examinations branch, OU since last two years.
Prof. B. Sashidhar Rao had received his Masters Degree in Biochemistry from Central University of Hyderabad, in the year 1981 and Ph.D from Osmania University, working at National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad, in the year 1987. Later, he worked as Technical Research Officer in the Food and Drug Toxicology Research Centre, National Institute of Nutrition. He joined the Department of Biochemistry, Osmania University, Hyderabad, as a faculty member in the year 1988. Earlier, he had also served as Chairman & Coordinator, Forensic Science Unit of the department, during the year 2002-2004. Later, he was appointed as the Chairman, BOS, Biochemistry and the Head, Dept. of Biochemistry, during 2007-09 and 2009-2011, respectively. He is presently, the Coordinator for Promotion of University Research & Scientific Excellence (PURSE-II) programme, sponsored by Department of Science Technology, New Delhi, with a funding of Rs. 81 millions. Earlier, he served as coordinator for two major university programmes, UGC-Centre for Excellence in ‘Bioprospecting of Certain Medicinal plants for health care’ with a research grant of Rs. 28 millions(2012-17), and DST-PURSE-I(2011-15), programme with a sanctioned funding of Rs. 90 millions, at Osmania University.
He has published extensively in both national and International journals, with an H-index of 28and I10index of66with over3000citations. He has also authored 5 books and has published over 125 research papers in IF journals. In the recent past, he was instrumental in identifying and completely characterizing a novel biopolymer (Gum Kondagogu- a forest based natural product of Andhra Pradesh) with applications in food industry, as a media for bioremediation of toxic metal ions, a matrix for drug delivery and in the development of nano-biocomposite material based biosensor and nano-medicine.
Fourteen students have received Ph.D degree under his guidance. Three students were awarded M.Phil degree in the area of biotechnology under his supervision. Earlier, twelve post doctoral fellows, two CSIR-Pool Scientists and two DST-Women scientists were associated with him. Presently, three post-doctoral fellows and four Ph.D. scholars are working in his lab. (Maxim News)
