Over 85 % voter turnout in bypoll to Munugodu Assembly seat
Hyderabad, Nov.3 (NSS): Over 85 percent of voter turnout was recorded in the by-poll to Munugodu Assembly constituency till 6 PM on Thursday.
The polling, which began on a dull note at 7 a.m., picked up momentum after lunch as a large number of voters, including women, turned out to cast their votes. The voters were seen standing in queue lines at various polling booths till 7 PM.
According to officials at the office of Telangana Chief Electoral Office (CEO), 77.55 per cent voter turnout was recorded by 5 PM.
The polling trend indicates that the vote percentage this time will be higher than 2018 when 91.38 per cent of votes were polled.
For the first time, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued new EPIC cards with six security features, including a hologram.
There are a total of 47 candidates in the fray, but the main contest is among three major players — TRS, BJP and Congress.
According to CEO Vikas Raj, barring minor incidents, the polling went off peacefully across the constituency. In some places, BJP and TRS workers clashed and argued over alleged distribution of money and liquor.
He said that Rs.8.26 crore was seized and the situation is not arised to conduct the repolling. The EVMs have been shifted to Nalgonda town amidst the tight security. The counting will be held on November 6. (NSS)
