Padma Rao Goud elected Dy Speaker unopposed

Hyderabad, Feb.25 (Maxim News): Senior TRS leader and former minister T. Padma Rao Goud was unanimously elected as Deputy Speaker of Telangana State Legislative Assembly on Monday. His election was announced by the Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy as soon as the House met for the day.

Later, Padma Rao was conducted to the Deputy Speaker’s chair by Leader of the House and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Leader of the Opposition Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and leaders of BJP and MIM parties. The Speaker of the House Pocharam, the CM, the Leader of the Opposition and other party leaders congratulated the Chief Minister on the occasion.

Addressing the House later, the Chief Minister recalled his association with Padma Rao Goud, who was with the TRS since its inception. “Our journey for the achievement of separate Telangana State has begun like a journey in a desert in the year 2001. Goud took part in the agitation to stop closure of toddy shops in the State in his early days. He opened the same shops in the State after becoming Excise Minister in the State. The relationship that was being maintained by Padma Rao with his constituents to attracted many people. Through this, he proved that any politician with the mass connect that he has with his people, cannot only earn goodwill but also taste wonderful successes in public life,” KCR added.

Leader of the Opposition Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said Padma Rao had began his political career as a Youth Congress leader and took part in the Gareebi Hatao movement launched by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He also said Padma Rao served a lot to the people of Hyderabad as a local Corporator. Padma Rao joined the TRS in the year 2001 and contested in the Assembly elections in the year 2009 and won from Secunderaad Assembly seat.

In 2009 Assembly elections, Padma Rao contested from Sanatnagar Assembly constituency and lost in the election at hands of Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy. Later, he once again contested from his Secunderaad Assembly segment on TRS ticket in the 2014 and won with a comfortable majority. He later became Minister for Excise and Sports. In the 2018 Assembly elections, he retained the seat and became Deputy Speaker in the House now. (Maxim News)
