PM Modi Fully Supported Tax Cuts, But Convincing Bureaucrats Took Time: FM Sitharaman
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was fully in favor of cutting taxes. Still, convincing government officials to go ahead with the plan took time.
In an interview with PTI on Sunday, Sitharaman explained that while Modi was clear about wanting tax cuts, the finance ministry needed time to feel confident about the decision.
“The Prime Minister was sure about reducing taxes, but the real challenge was within the ministry. We had to ensure that officials were comfortable with the idea and believed it would improve tax collection and support honest taxpayers,” she said.
She also highlighted how Modi’s government listens to people from different backgrounds before making decisions.
“PM Modi meets and interacts with people from all walks of life—business leaders, tribal communities, and the underprivileged. He listens to their concerns and takes action. Just like President Droupadi Murmu focuses on the needs of marginalized communities, the Prime Minister also ensures that every section of society is heard,” she added.
Her remarks emphasize Modi’s hands-on leadership and his commitment to making policies that benefit all citizens.
