Delhi/Hyderabad, Oct 24 (Maxim News): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday greeted Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel on the force’s 65th Raising Day. He praised their courage, determination and selfless service to the nation.
The ITBP was raised on October 24, 1962, following the India-China war. The force guards the 3,488-kilometre India-China border, stretching from the Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh.
In a post on X, Modi said the force’s personnel, known as Himveers, had distinguished themselves through exceptional valour. He added that their determination and sacrifices continued to inspire the nation.

The ITBP also extended greetings to its personnel, Himveeranganas and their families on the occasion. The force reaffirmed its commitment to national service under its motto, “Shaurya, Dridhta, Karmanishtha,” meaning valour, steadfastness and dedication.
The force operates in some of the world’s most challenging high-altitude environments. According to the Union Home Ministry, many of its border outposts are located between 9,000 and 18,800 feet. Temperatures in these areas can fall to minus 45 degrees Celsius during extreme winters.
Beyond guarding the border, the ITBP performs internal security duties and supports operations against Left-Wing Extremism in Chhattisgarh. Its personnel receive specialised training in mountaineering, skiing and tactical operations.
The force also plays an important role in disaster response. It conducts search, rescue and relief operations during natural calamities, particularly across the Himalayan region. The ITBP often acts as a first responder to assist people affected by disasters.
The 65th Raising Day recognises the service and sacrifices of ITBP personnel who safeguard the country’s frontiers and assist citizens during emergencies.
