Police Commemoration Day Observed In Adilabad

Adilabad: Collector Rajarshi Shah said that the sacrifices of martyrs of the police department were memorable forever. He was speaking at the Police Commemoration Day observed here on Monday.

Shah along with Superintendent of Police Gaush Alam, district principal judge K Prabhakar Rao, legislators Payal Shankar and Anil Jadhav, TSSP second battalion commandant Nikitha Panth paid floral homage to the martyrs at a column, a first-of-its-kind structure erected in Telangana featuring images of the martyrs. He recalled supreme sacrifices made by the martyrs.

The Collector opined that only policemen would discharge duties without caring for their family members. He stated that they would lay down their lives in the line of duty. He assured to extend all support to the police on behalf of the district administration mechanism. He requested the public to commemorate the sacrifices of the martyrs.

Alam lit a lamp at the column and later cops performed Shok Sashtra by carrying weapons upside down before observing silence for two minutes. He handed over mementos to family members of the martyrs and presented prizes to winners of essay writing, elocution, painting, and other competitions held to mark Police Martyrs Commemoration Week.

A massive rally was taken out from Collectorate Chowrasta to the Police parade grounds to mark the day. Similar programs were held in Nirmal, Kumaram Bheem Asifabad, and Mancherial districts.

50 cops laid down lives in erstwhile Adilabad.

As many as 50 police officials sacrificed their lives in exchange for fire between cops and extremists and other violent incidents by anti-social elements from 1985 to till date in the erstwhile Adilabad district. While 20 cops from the Nirmal district were killed, Kumram Bheem Asifabad recorded 17 deaths of cops. Both Adilabad and Mancherial districts had seen the martyrdom of nine and seven policemen, respectively.
