Speaking to the media on Monday, he said politics is increasingly becoming polluted, with some leaders focusing mainly on wealth accumulation rather than public service. He stressed that there is a strong need for cleansing in politics.

In this context, he said it is a positive development if Maoists come into the mainstream and engage with the public. He added that the Indian National Congress is a social and secular party and welcomes anyone who wants to join the party with the intention of serving the people.

Recently, around 130 Maoists surrendered before A. Revanth Reddy, the Chief Minister of Telangana, and Jitender Shivadhar Reddy, the state Director General of Police.

According to officials, those who surrendered included three members from the state committee, ten from the divisional committee, about 40 area committee members and nearly 70 other Maoist party members.

Police said the surrender took place following the appeal made by the Chief Minister on the occasion of Police Martyrs’ Commemoration Day, encouraging Maoists to lay down arms and return to the mainstream. (Maxim News)
