A pregnant doctor died in a road accident in Warangal, triggering grief among colleagues and local residents. The incident occurred when a tipper allegedly hit the two wheeler she was riding with her husband on Hunter Road. Police said the doctor suffered serious injuries and later died during treatment.
According to Mattewada SI Sivakrishna, the deceased was identified as S Mamatarani. She was a resident of Battampally in Chincholi mandal of Gulbarga district in Karnataka. She worked as a doctor in the General Medicine Department at Father Colombo Hospital on Hunter Road in Warangal. She had married Dr Raghavendra from Narayanpet district last year.
The accident took place on Monday night after the couple finished their duties and left for home on a bike. While they were travelling via Hunter Road, a tipper coming from behind allegedly hit their vehicle at the Seven Mori intersection. As a result, both fell on the road. Mamatarani, who was nine months pregnant, sustained serious injuries. Meanwhile, her husband also suffered injuries in the accident.
Local people rushed to help the injured couple. They shifted Mamatarani and her husband to a private hospital in the city. However, doctors declared Mamatarani dead while she was undergoing treatment. Her death sent shockwaves among hospital staff and the medical community, who described the incident as a tragic loss.
Following the accident, police took the tipper driver into custody. He was identified as Ansari, a native of Jharkhand. Later, based on a complaint filed by the deceased doctor’s husband, police registered a case and began an investigation. Officials said they are examining the circumstances that led to the accident.
Meanwhile, police continued to gather details and question the driver as part of the probe. They said further action would depend on the findings of the investigation. The incident has once again highlighted concerns over road safety and heavy vehicle movement on busy city roads, especially during night hours.
