Protection of Temple Lands: TG Government to Bring New Bill
Hyderabad, Nov 1 (Maxim News): The Telangana government, under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, has taken a significant step toward protecting the state’s endowment lands. The government is preparing to amend Chapter XI of the Andhra Pradesh Endowments Act, 1987, and plans to remove Sections 83 and 84 to strengthen legal protection for temple properties.
A bill to this effect will be introduced during the upcoming Assembly session.
The decision comes in the wake of large-scale encroachments on temple and charitable trust lands across the state. Thousands of acres of endowment land have reportedly been taken over illegally through prolonged tribunal and court disputes. The government aims to curb these practices and secure the lands’ rightful ownership under the Endowments Department.
In the Greater Hyderabad region alone, hundreds of acres of temple lands are said to be under encroachment. The government estimates that endowment properties worth thousands of crores of rupees are caught up in legal or unauthorized possession.
The Revanth Reddy government is determined to reclaim all such lands and buildings belonging to temples and charitable institutions, irrespective of who has occupied them. Officials have been directed to take firm action against encroachers. If necessary, the Endowments Department, in coordination with the police and the Hyderabad District Revenue Administration (HYDRA), will carry out eviction drives to recover the properties.
This legislative move underscores the government’s commitment to protecting the religious and cultural assets of Telangana and ensuring transparency in the management of temple properties. (Maxim News)
