Hyderabad, Sept. 22: Comedian Pulkit Mani has cancelled his upcoming stand up shows in Noida, Lucknow and Kanpur, citing repeated threats following a political controversy over his mimicry of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Mani performed alongside Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ event in Indore on September 19.
During the programme, Mani performed a skit mimicking Modi’s mannerisms and style of speaking.
Mani first announced the cancellation of his Noida show on Instagram, citing “unforeseen circumstances”.
He later said his Lucknow and Kanpur shows were cancelled due to “repeated threats from goon activists”. He did not provide details about the alleged threats.

A video of the Indore performance was shared by the Congress on X and subsequently triggered a political controversy.
During the skit, Mani appeared on stage with Rahul Gandhi and adopted mannerisms associated with Modi.
The performance included references to Modi and his interactions with people.
The BJP criticised the performance and attacked the Congress over Gandhi’s presence during the act.
Congress, meanwhile, defended the performance as mimicry. The political reactions have continued since the video circulated online.
Following the controversy, Mani also shared screenshots of messages he said were hate messages received on social media.
The cancellations of the three shows were announced amid the continuing political dispute.
Reports said it remained unclear whether Mani himself cancelled the events or whether the venues called them off.
