rachakonda: Over 39,000 Traffic Violations reported in a Week

In just one week, between January 15 and 21, the Rachakonda Traffic Police have booked over 39,000 cases and imposed a total fine of over Rs 1.70 crore on traffic violators. During the week, as many as 78 road accidents were reported and 22 persons lost lives.

Officials said major human errors including negligent driving, over speed and drunk driving turned out to be the causes. As per the traffic police data, during various special drives conducted across the city for violations and as part of regular enforcement, a total of 39,858 Motor Vehicle Act cases were booked under various heads and imposed a fine of Rs.1,75,58,415 during the week.

To curb the menace of drunk driving, the traffic wing has booked seven cases during the period and traffic violators were counselled by the Traffic Training Institute staff in the presence of their family members. A total of 118 persons were produced before the courts for drunk driving, which imposed a total fine of Rs 3.40 lakh and jailed one of them.

Officials said in the last week, a total of 78 road crashes were reported and 22 persons lost their lives. “Most of the accidents were due to human errors and road engineering defects including negligent driving, overspeeding, drunk driving and skidding of vehicles,” a senior official from the Rachakonda Traffic Police said.

The Traffic Engineering Cell staff along with inter-department officials visited recent fatal mishap spots and studied the cause of road crashes.

“Short-term, mid-term and long-term correctional measures were addressed. The Traffic Engineering Cell staff are continuously coordinating and monitoring the suggestions to rectify the black spots,” the senior official said.
