Hyderabad: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held talks with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh on Friday. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Raisina Dialogue 2026 in New Delhi.
The talks happened amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The conflict began after the joint US-Israel strikes against Iran on February 28. The operation aimed to degrade Tehran’s missile capabilities and military infrastructure.
The opening wave of the strikes killed senior figures in the Iranian leadership. Among those killed was Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Following the strikes, Tehran responded with drone and missile attacks. These attacks targeted US assets, regional capitals, and allied forces across the region.
Meanwhile, the Raisina Dialogue continues in New Delhi as India’s flagship conference on geopolitics and geo-economics. The 11th edition of the conference started on Thursday. It brought together global leaders, policymakers, and strategic experts to discuss key global challenges.
The three-day event runs from March 5 to March 7. It is organised by the Observer Research Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs. The conference gathers heads of state, ministers, academics, industry leaders, think tanks, and members of the media.
During the event, Jaishankar also met several other international leaders and officials. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Raisina Dialogue on March 5. Finland President Alexander Stubb attended the inaugural session as the Chief Guest and delivered the keynote address.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said, “The theme of the 2026 edition is ‘Saṁskāra – Assertion, Accommodation, Advancement’. Over the course of three days, decision makers and thought leaders of the world will engage each other across conversations in various formats, over six thematic pillars: (i) Contested Frontiers: Power, Polarity, and Periphery; (ii) Repairing the Commons: New Groups, New Guardians, New Avenues; (iii) White Whale: The Pursuit of Agenda 2030; (iv) The Eleventh Hour: Climate, Conflict, and the Cost of Delay; (v) Tomorrowland: Towards a Tech-topia; (vi) Trade in the Time of Tariffs: Recovery, Resilience, Reinvention.”
