- Election Commission issues notification for Rajya Sabha seats across 15 states
- Nominations begin today; polling on March 16 if required
Hyderabad: Rajya Sabha Elections have formally begun after the Election Commission of India issued a notification to fill 37 seats across 15 states. The vacancies arise as the terms of several members representing various states are set to end.
With the notification in place, the election process is now underway. Candidates can file their nominations from today. Therefore, political activity is expected to gather pace in the concerned states. The Commission has also set clear deadlines for each stage of the process.
The last date for filing nominations is March 5. After that, officials will scrutinize the nominations on March 6. This step will ensure that all submitted papers meet the required norms. Meanwhile, candidates who wish to withdraw from the contest can do so until March 9.
If the elections are not unanimous, polling will be held on March 16. Voting will take place from 9 am to 4 pm. Later, the counting of votes will begin at 5 pm on the same day. The authorities will then announce the results.
The Rajya Sabha Elections cover a total of 37 seats spread across 15 states. These seats are becoming vacant because the current members are completing their terms. As a result, the Election Commission has initiated the process in a time bound manner.
The schedule outlines each stage clearly, from nominations to results. Meanwhile, all stakeholders are expected to follow the guidelines set by the Election Commission of India. The entire process will conclude with the declaration of results on March 16, if polling becomes necessary.
