- Ramchander Rao arrested in BJP protest near Assembly
- BJP alleges Congress failed to fulfil six guarantees
Hyderabad, March 23: Telangana BJP chief N Ramchander Rao was arrested during a protest near the Assembly against the Congress government. The protest focused on the alleged failure to fulfil promises made to the people after coming to power.
Tension prevailed outside the Assembly as BJP workers gathered under the leadership of Ramchander Rao. They attempted to lay siege to the Assembly on Monday. However, police intervened and detained the BJP leader along with several party workers. The situation turned tense as slogans were raised against the government.
Meanwhile, Ramchander Rao strongly criticised the Congress government. He said the party had promised six guarantees to the people before coming to power. However, he alleged that these promises were not fulfilled even after two years. Therefore, he accused the government of misleading the public.
He further said that several sections of society were affected. These include farmers, women, youth, employees, and pensioners. According to him, the benefits promised to these groups have largely remained pending. This, he claimed, has led to growing dissatisfaction among the people.
In a statement, Ramchander Rao said, “What was projected as ‘Praja Palana’ has now turned into ‘Praja Mosam’,”. He used this remark to highlight what he described as a gap between promises and delivery. The statement has since drawn attention in political circles.
He also criticised the government’s response to protests. He said that instead of addressing public concerns, the government used state machinery against those raising their voice. This, he argued, reflects an attempt to suppress opposition.
Meanwhile, the protest near the Assembly led to heightened security measures in the area. Police presence increased to prevent further escalation. However, BJP leaders maintained that their protest was aimed at holding the government accountable.
The arrest of Ramchander Rao has added to the ongoing political tensions in Telangana. Therefore, the issue is expected to remain a point of confrontation between the ruling party and the opposition in the coming days.
