Ration Card Cancellation in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
Ration Card Cancellation | Hyderabad, Dec. 11: The Central government confirmed that Telangana and Andhra Pradesh cancelled a significant number of ration cards during the past months.
The Union Minister informed Parliament that Telangana cancelled 140947 ration cards during the last ten months.
Officials stated that the cancellations resulted from ineligibility, fake cards, migration to other regions and the death of card holders. They also clarified that no ration card was cancelled due to incomplete eKYC or Aadhaar verification.
Ration Card Cancellation Drive in Telugu States
Telangana currently has 56.60 lakh active ration cards, according to the latest official data. The state has continued routine verification efforts to ensure that only eligible families receive food security benefits. These efforts form part of an ongoing process to strengthen transparency in the public distribution system.
Andhra Pradesh cancelled 50681 ration cards during the current year. The state now has 88.37 lakh ration cards in use.
The Central government submitted these figures in a report to the Lok Sabha. Both states are conducting regular audits to remove invalid entries and improve accuracy in beneficiary identification.
Officials emphasised that the process aims to prevent misuse of government schemes and ensure direct support for genuine beneficiaries.
These cancellation drives also help update population-based records and reduce leakages in essential commodity distribution. The Centre continues to monitor the progress and review state submissions to maintain uniform standards across the country.
