Revanth Arrested In Early Hours & Let Off In Evening

Hyderabad, Dec.4 (Maxim News): In a sensational drama, the Vikarabad police in the early hours of Tuesday took TPCC working president A. Revanth Reddy into preventive custody citing law and order problem. Some 50 police personnel in plain clothes reached the residence of Revanth Reddy at 3 am and broke open the locks of the main entrance and went inside and took the Congress leader into preventive custody despite stiff resistance.

The police also took into custody his brothers Kondal Reddy and Tirupathi Reddy along with the TPCC working president. Wife of Revanth Geetha Reddy and her daughter were also present at that time. The police initially took Revanth Reddy to Jadcherla police training Center. The arrest of Revanth has come ahead of Chief Minister KCR’s meeting at Kodangal. Revanth had given a Kodangal bandh call and asked the party workers to stage protest programs across the constituency against the visit of the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, State Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar responded on the issue and said Revanth Reddy was arrested as a precautionary measure as per the rules of the Election Commission. He also said they had sought a report on the arrest of Revanth Reddy from the DGP and the district SP and Election Commission officials. Rajat Kumar made it clear that they would allow Revanth to carry out his election campaign. The district SP Annapoorna responded on the issue and said they would release Revanth after the completion of the public meeting of the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, the High Court heard an emergency habeaus corpus petition filed against the arbitrary arrest of Revanth Reddy and questioned the State police as to what was wrong with the bandh call given by Revanth Reddy. It also asked the police on what crime they had prevented by taking the Congress leader into custody. The petition was filed by Revanth’s close friend and party leader Vem Narender Reddy in the High Court.

The arrest of Revanth has attracted widespread protests across the State prompting leaders from all political parties to condemn it in unison. The police invoked Section 144 CrPC to prevent any untoward incident in Kodangal. (Maxim News)
