Hyderabad, July 30: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday alleged that the Narendra Modi-led Union government had increased the country’s debt to ₹151 lakh crore since 2014, claiming it was higher than the borrowings accumulated by previous Prime Ministers.
Addressing the media at the Dr. MCR Human Resource Development Institute (MCRHRD), Revanth Reddy also responded to criticism from the BJP over the state’s governance and education initiatives.
Revanth Reddy Criticises Centre Over Debt
The Chief Minister claimed that India’s total debt from Independence until 2014 stood at ₹51 lakh crore, while borrowings had increased to ₹151 lakh crore under the Modi government.
“We cannot keep responding to every criticism. If we keep remembering criticisms, we will not be able to move forward,” he said.
Revanth Reddy also hit back at Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao over remarks on the state’s education sector. He said Telangana’s national ranking in education had improved from 28th to 18th during his government’s tenure.
Defending his administration’s welfare measures, the Chief Minister highlighted the implementation of breakfast, lunch and snack programmes for students. He questioned why he should resign for introducing such initiatives.
Revanth Reddy asserted that he would continue as Chief Minister until 2034 and said his government would continue working for the welfare of students.
He also referred to his participation in the State Chief Executive Education programme at Harvard University and questioned criticism over his leadership.
The BJP has not immediately responded to the Chief Minister’s latest remarks.
