Hyderabad: Revanth Reddy has directed officials to purchase only electric vehicles for government departments as part of measures to check pollution. The Telangana Chief Minister issued the instruction during a meeting with transport and roads and buildings department officials on Wednesday night.
The directive means government departments must shift to electric vehicles for their future purchases. The decision forms part of the state government’s effort to reduce pollution. Therefore, officials will now focus on electric mobility when procuring vehicles for official use.
During the meeting, Revanth Reddy also instructed officials to hire only electric vehicles in the Core Urban Region. The Core Urban Region mainly comprises the state capital limits in Hyderabad. By limiting vehicle hiring to electric options in this region, the government aims to encourage cleaner transportation.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also discussed road safety awareness. He suggested that officials prepare short films on road safety. He also asked them to screen these films widely so that the public becomes more aware of safe driving practices.
Later in the meeting, Revanth Reddy directed officials to prepare plans for a modern bus terminal at Shamshabad. The terminal is planned at a location where a high speed rail corridor is proposed to be developed. Officials will now work on planning and development proposals for this transport facility.
The Chief Minister also spoke about upcoming high speed rail corridors connected to Hyderabad. According to the plan discussed during the meeting, high speed corridors linking Hyderabad with Pune, Bengaluru, and Chennai would come up in the Telangana capital. These corridors are expected to strengthen regional connectivity.
Through these directions, Revanth Reddy emphasized both pollution control and transportation planning. The move to use electric vehicles in government departments aims to support cleaner mobility. At the same time, plans for transport infrastructure and road safety campaigns reflect the government’s focus on urban mobility and public awareness.
