Hyderabad, Sept. 22: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said the government is working for the development and welfare of Dalits, Adivasis and tribal communities.
Speaking at a committee meeting on implementation of the SC and ST Atrocities Prevention Act at the Secretariat on Tuesday, Reddy said the government was committed to supporting these communities.
He recalled former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s role in providing assigned land pattas and said her approach continued to inspire the government.
Reddy said 31 percent of beneficiaries under the Indiramma housing scheme are Dalits. He also said 17 percent of sanctioned houses have been allocated to ST beneficiaries.
Revanth Reddy Calls for Education and Welfare Support
The Chief Minister said the government is providing breakfast to 27.5 lakh students from nursery to Class 12.
He also said fine rice is being supplied to 3.48 crore people across Telangana. Government records have separately cited more than 3.28 crore beneficiaries for fine rice distribution.
Reddy said welfare schemes are being implemented with the needs of Dalit, tribal and Adivasi communities in mind.
He also directed officials to ensure compensation reaches victims of sexual assault without delays. He asked officials to use a green channel for releasing the compensation without linking it to budget availability.
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of education in improving the lives of disadvantaged communities.
He urged officials and community leaders to encourage children to pursue education and sports.
Reddy also called for efforts to develop Dalit and tribal communities beyond political considerations.
The government has been implementing the second phase of Indiramma housing, with 2.5 lakh houses sanctioned across Telangana.
