Revanth Reddy Stalled Palamuru Project Only to Please His Old Boss; Farmers Paying the Price—KTR

Hyderabad, Jan 8 (Maxim News): BRS Working President K.Tarak Rama Rao has alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy deliberately stalled the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project to satisfy his former political boss, pushing lakhs of farmers in the region into distress.

Speaking at the Kollapur constituency joining programme held at Telangana Bhavan, KTR said the Congress government’s handling of the project reflects a combination of political insecurity and administrative incompetence that is directly costing the people of Palamuru.

KTR said that nearly 90 per cent of the Palamuru project was completed under former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, with the Narlapur, Karivena, Vattem, Edula and Udandapur reservoirs fully ready. Only canal works remained, which could have been completed swiftly to make the project operational. Instead of finishing the remaining portion, he said, the Congress government cancelled tenders, halted all work and has refused to restart construction. According to him, the reason was not technical or financial but political—Revanth Reddy did not want KCR to receive credit for delivering water to Palamuru, fearing that drawing water from Krishna river would anger his old political mentor.

Recalling the historic moment when KCR inaugurated the 145 MW pumps at Narlapur to lift Krishna waters, KTR said the people of Palamuru witnessed genuine development under BRS. In contrast, he accused the current Chief Minister of showing only political vengeance by stalling the project. He said this delay was particularly cruel at a time when farmers across the region were grappling with severe water scarcity and widespread crop holidays.

KTR also took aim at Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s lack of basic understanding of irrigation and water resources. He said a Chief Minister who publicly claimed that the Bhakra Nangal dam—located in Himachal Pradesh—was in Telangana had no authority to lecture KCR on river basins or irrigation policy. He added that even senior Congress leaders did not know which basin major Telangana projects such as Devadula belonged to, raising questions over the government’s capacity to manage critical irrigation infrastructure.

KTR further criticised the Congress government’s performance over the past two years, describing it as a period marked by lies, demolitions and deliberate destruction. He said the government has abandoned its six guarantees, misled the public with hundreds of false promises and demolished the homes of the poor across several districts. He also condemned the blasting of check dams built under the BRS regime, calling it an unprecedented act by any government. While the previous government focused on constructing check dams, reservoirs and water-retention structures, he said the Congress administration has spent two years dismantling them.

Expressing deep concern over the condition of farmers, KTR said that Telangana never witnessed urea shortages, seed scarcity, electricity disruptions or crop holidays during BRS rule. He contrasted this with the current crisis, noting that farmers were forced to stand in long lines—often leaving slippers in place—to buy urea. He ridiculed the government’s claim that urea would be supplied through a mobile application even when the product was not available in shops. He said that after failing to deliver on its Guarantee Cards, the Congress government had introduced another gimmick in the form of a “Urea Card,” further misleading farmers. He pointed out that while BRS credited Rythu Bandhu 11 times, the Congress government has given Rythu Bharosa only once and that too after reducing the promised amount.

Turning to Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, KTR reminded that Jupally himself had admitted last year in Adilabad that he was unsure whether Congress would retain power or whether he would win his seat. He said the people of Kollapur had already rejected Jupally, who once called KCR the saviour of Palamuru but is today praising Revanth Reddy only to safeguard his ministerial position. KTR described this as political opportunism at its highest and accused Jupally of remaining silent on Congress’ failures while choosing to criticise KCR even on issues affecting farmers.

KTR urged BRS cadres to remain united and prepare for the upcoming Municipal, MPTC and ZPTC elections. He said that to protect Telangana’s development model and ensure irrigation security, KCR must return as Chief Minister. (Maxim News)
