Revanth Sarkar to Launch Statewide Drive for Comprehensive Govt. Land Records

Revanth Sarkar | Hyderabad, August 9: The Telangana government is gearing up for a massive exercise to create a complete database of government land across the state, detailing ownership, usage, and the department under whose jurisdiction each parcel falls.
The initiative aims to address encroachment issues and improve land management by compiling accurate records from the village level.
According to official sources, district collectors will receive detailed guidelines in the coming days. Unlike previous exercises conducted at the mandal level, the new plan will register government lands using villages as the basic unit.

Each record will include the name of the government office holding the land, its allocated purpose, the extent of surplus land, and its current use.
Preliminary estimates suggest that 13.82 lakh acres of land are currently under the jurisdiction of various government departments in Telangana.
However, the absence of proper monitoring has led to widespread encroachment. Lands on pond edges, waqf properties, endowment lands, and poramboku areas have been particularly vulnerable, with little to no action taken against illegal occupation.
Officials say that the updated land records will help curb encroachments, improve transparency, and strengthen administrative control. The initiative comes at a time when the state is appointing village administration officers and licensed surveyors, enabling more accurate and regular land monitoring.
The government hopes that this database will serve as a reliable reference for policy-making, dispute resolution, and future development planning. Once completed, the records are expected to streamline inter-departmental coordination and prevent misuse of valuable public assets.
