Riyadh/Hyderabad, July 21 (Maxim News): A deeply moving condolence meeting was held in Riyadh to honor the memories of two esteemed personalities — Mir Firasat Ali Khusro, a noted Urdu poet and anchor, and Dr. Abdul Moiz, a respected academician and chemist. The event took place on Thursday, July 17, and was jointly organized by Hindustani Bazm-e-Urdu and Mohabban-e-Urdu, Riyadh.
The solemn gathering was held at Chatkhare Restaurant in Hara, Riyadh, and was graced by prominent Urdu literary figures, including Architect Abdul Rahman Saleem (A. R. Saleem) from Chicago, Engineer Mohammed Mubin, and others. The event showcased the deep respect and admiration the Urdu-speaking community held for the departed souls.
Mir Firasat Ali Khusro was remembered for his eloquent Urdu poetry and charismatic anchoring at literary and cultural programs. His contributions left a lasting impact on the Urdu literary scene both in India and the Gulf. Dr. Abdul Moiz, a distinguished chemist and academician, served at King Saud University, Riyadh College of Dentistry and Pharmacy, and a private college in Jeddah before relocating to Hyderabad. His scientific and educational contributions were widely acknowledged.
The program began at 7:30 PM after Maghrib prayers and was anchored by Senior Journalist Mohammed Saifuddin. Attendees shared emotional tributes and fond memories. Speakers included Dr. Dilshad Ahmad, Dr. Ashraf, Dr. Syed Masood, A. R. Saleem, Mohammed Mubin, and Dr. Saeed Nawaz, among others.
Condolence messages from Poet & Writer Azra Naqvi (India) and Senior Journalist K. N. Wasif were also read during the program, further highlighting the wide reach and respect the departed held across borders.
The evening concluded with a poetry session led by local poets, offering a soulful tribute through verses that captured the legacy of the two individuals.
The gathering was attended by several notable Urdu enthusiasts including Mazhar Sultan, Amjad Zubair, Muhammad Farooq, Basith Abu Maaz, Mirza Sadullah Baig (Sohail), Syed Abdul Hamid, and many others. Their presence emphasized the collective grief and solidarity of the Urdu literary community in Riyadh.
Organizers extended heartfelt condolences to the families of Mir Firasat Ali Khusro and Dr. Abdul Moiz, offering prayers and support during this time of loss. The event stood as a powerful reminder of how art, language, and memory continue to bind communities together across continents.
